DAY
This EP is a musical celebration of life, vibrancy, and seizing the day! I think that life is beautiful and is meant to be enjoyed. Go out and do something that you’ve never done, eat some food that you’ve never tried, and do the thing that you’ve always been afraid of trying! After completing this collection of songs, I just pictured myself riding in a convertible car on a sunny day with my beautiful partner next to me with huge smiles across our faces. I hope this music makes you feel the same way.
I had originally planned to release a 12-song full length album (with these being the first 4 songs), but all of my friends and connections in the music industry told me “no one listens to albums anymore.” Is that true? Shame. Whatever. So I canned that idea, and decided to break up the songs into 4-song EPs for your enjoyment. Obviously, that means that “NIGHT” will be released at some point this year…?! But in the meantime, enjoy these songs and let it all go!
The album art was painted on canvas by my good friend Charlie Franco. Charlie is an artist local to Charlotte, NC who is currently exploring neo-expressionism. We worked very closely with what my expectations were, and what direction he wanted the art to take. Charlie also insisted that he listen to the album before coming up with any sketches or rough ideas, so that he could capture the vibe of the music with his art. Ultimately, I gave Charlie Franco full creative control over what he came up with, because that is why I hired him. His art had impressed me in the past, and I knew he was the right man for the job. I am extremely pleased with this work of art, and am proud to call Charlie Franco my friend. Do you want to know the best part? I get to keep the original canvas!!!
I began sharing my music with the goal of inspiring ONE person, bringing joy to ONE person, convincing ONE person to learn to play the saxophone. I’ve accomplished that goal thousands of times now, but the feeling is the same. The messages, the love from you guys is unbelievable. THANK YOU

1. Good Good
On “I Am Charlez360,” my good friend Tomi Gulden gave me some great advice: let the track breathe. I have taken that to heart and really wanted this song to come in with a “bang!” but also not slap the listener in the face with saxophone from the first second of the song. “Good Good” sets the tone for the entire EP: 80s, synthpop, good vibes. I wanted this track to have a few fun catchy sax lines that get stuck in your head while you’re dancing.

2. Tonight (Is the Night to Lose Control)
This song is a high-energy synthpop dream! My primary goal was to have the alto saxophone follow the structure of the instrumental and play something catchy. I did not want the song to sound like an endless saxophone solo. I had such a great time recording this song, because I got it all done in one single day (about 3 hours of recording), and recorded one of the most intense alto sax solos of my entire life. Just wait for the high note ;)

3. Cabrón
This song is the turning point of the entire EP. The first two songs were very 80s, very high energy, but the beginning of “Cabrón” feels almost like waking up from a dream. The alto saxophone plays a muffled, delayed line that echoes remnants of the main saxophone line of the song. It is meant to feel foreign and familiar all in the same breath. When the song finally drops, the alto and tenor saxes come together as one big strong family, carrying the line. Reggaeton music is definitely not in my wheelhouse (I’m from Germany and USA haha), but I had a blast creating this music.

4. Sometimes Love Works Out
“Sometimes Love Works Out” still has the 80s feel of some of the other songs on the EP, but I wanted to bring a little bit of “summertime sadness” vibes into the mix as well. You know that feeling when vacation is coming to an end and you know you had the time of your life but you also have to leave? That’s what I wanted this song to feel like. A melancholy longing for the good times…
